So you want to start creating your own tracks that will hopefully lead to some DJ gigs at a bar, groupies, cash, and eventually world fame? While it is great to pursue your dreams you should never get caught up with the benefits of what you will have when you achieve your fame. Don’t obsess about the final product. Obsess about the process. In order to become a rich and famous DJ you will first need to learn how to create a good beat.

There are many different beat making programs that you can download for free or buy depending on where you want to start. Either way, once you select a program that you believe will work for you – it is time to get down to the basics. First, every successful track or hip hop song has a basic beat behind it. You need to create a basic beat that will act as the foundation for the rest of your track. Tinker with the drum kits and sample beat audio files until you come up with something that sounds decent. Secondly, decide what “format” you want your track to follow. In other words, do you want your track to slowly build up from the start? Or end abruptly? The general format that most beat makers use is the “build up from the start, peak in the middle, and fade out at the end” format. In other words, the track needs to have an intro, body, and end. It is entirely up to you to decide what type of format you want your tracks to follow but it is a good idea to decide before you start constructing the track. The same beat should flow through the entire duration of the track.

Now, before you start randomly selecting audio files and meshing them together you should know that creating a good track comes with time. You should never rush into creating a track – take it a step at a time and approach beat making with an open mind. In other words, throw your pride out the window and don’t be afraid to ask for criticism or advice. Let other people help you. Additionally, you shouldn’t keep your tracks to yourself – play them for your friends or family members and ask what they think.

So if you want to achieve your goal of being a famous DJ you need to start from the beginning and put a lot of effort into mastering your DJ software and hardware.

There are a lot of beat making software choices on the market.  Check out my beat maker reviews to see which software I recommend.

Also, I recently wrote an article about a fantastic DJ training course that’s available online.  It covers everything from making beats to selling them to getting gigs at local clubs and self promotion.  So if you’re interested in actually making money with your hobby then check it out.
